We welcomed two year ten pupils from local high school, Salford Academy recently to our facility in Manchester.
The two enthusiastic pupils are currently studying engineering at school amongst many other subjects and enjoyed touring round the various departments, including sales, purchasing, finance, mechanical and electrical design to gain some industry knowledge from the various roles and experiences our multi-skilled and multi-disciplined team has.
They enjoyed their online meeting with our Sustainability Manager, who gave them some additional insights with climate issues which are high on the agenda and how we see the reduction of cardon dioxide emissions as crucial with our own business.
They particularly enjoyed the practical experience of building valve plates under supervision on our busy shopfloor, along with helping out on a leak detection system built for testing motorbike fuel tanks that’s almost due for its factory acceptance test.
Hopefully their work experience helped them gain confidence with adapting to a new situation and taking away some practical skills and a brief understanding of different work environments, workplace etiquette, dress code and communication.
Special thanks to VES’ Andrea (Andrea Whittle CEng MIMechE CMSE, CEFS, CECE) and Jonathan (Jonathan Ellis), our STEM ambassadors for hosting and coordinating their visit.
We wish both pupils good luck and all the best for their futures ahead.
