The latest F-gas legislation, officially known as Regulation (EU) 2024/573 on fluorinated greenhouse gases, is a set of rules aimed at reducing the emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases).
These are man-made chemicals with a high global warming potential, used in various applications like refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps and aerosols. They trap significantly more heat than carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change.
Key measures include stricter rules to prevent emissions, emphasising preventing F-gas leaks during the production, installation, servicing and disposal of equipment.
This includes mandatory leak checks for larger systems. VES’ vacuum leak detection systems are essential tools for ensuring the integrity and performance of components in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems.
By creating a vacuum and precisely detecting tracer gases, they enable the identification and repair of leaks, contributing to efficiency, environmental protection and the longevity of the equipment.
The key objective is aiming for a complete phase-out out of F-gases by 2050.
